- 『그리스인 조르바』는 대행선(大行禪)의 관점에서 어떻게 해석될 수 있는가?－자유인에 대한 설법과 묘사를 중심으로－ -
이 논문은 니코스 카잔차키스의 장편소설 『그리스인 조르바』에서 묘사된 ‘자유인’을 한마음선원장을 역임한 대행선사의 설법을 경유하여 고찰하는 것에 주된 목적이 있다. 자유인을 주제로 한 대행선(大行禪)의 관점에서 『그리스인 조르바』의 내용을 해석해보는 것은, 그간 동 소설과 자유의 철학적 의미를 탐색해온 계보학적 연구의 지평을 일정수준 넓혀줄 수 있을 것이다. 이를 위해 본문에서는 연구의 분석틀을 마련한다는 차원에서 대행선사가 설한바 있는 자유인의 내용을 ‘한마음 주인공’, ‘한마음 수행론’, ‘평상심’을 경유하여 각각 검토해보기로 한다. 이러한 연구 분석틀을 토대로 『그리스인 조르바』에서 묘사된 자유인을 해석하는 것은 본고의 핵심내용이라 할 수 있다. 이 같은 연구 설계에 따라 소설 텍스트를 분석해 본 결과 『그리스인 조르바』의 서사를 보다 분명하게 이해하는 데, 대행선의 내용이 유용한 도구가 될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 대행선사의 설법과 카잔차키스의 소설은 비록 ‘종교’와 ‘문학’이라는 범주에서 구분 가능하지만, 이 둘은 ‘자유인’을 경유하여 넓은 층위의 교집합이 형성된다는 점을 확인할 수 있었던 것이다. 본 연구에 대해서는 카잔차키스 문학의 불교적 함의를 파악하는 데 대행선이 유용하게 활용될 수 있다는 사례제공의 차원에서 일정한 학문적 의미를 부여할 수 있을 것이다.
How Can the Novel Zorba the Greek Be Interpreted From Ven. Daehaeng's Seon Thought? －Focusing on Buddhist Sermon and Description of a Free Man－
This thesis aims to analyze a free man described in Nikos Kazantzakis' novel Zorba the Greek through the buddhist sermon of Ven. Daehaeng. Interpreting Zorba the Greek from the viewpoint of Daehaeng's Seon thought will expand the level of research that has been exploring the philosophical meaning of novel Zorba the Greek and freedom. To this end, in order to prepare a framework for analysis of the research, the main text will examine a free man described by Daehaeng's in terms of ‘Hanmaum Juingong’, ‘theory of Hanmaum practice', and ‘ordinary mind'(平常心). The core content of this paper is to interpret a free man described in the novel Zorba the Greek based on this analysis frame. As a result of analyzing text of the novel according to this research design, it was found that contents of Daehaeng's Seon thought can be a useful tool in understanding narrative of Zorba the Greek more clearly. Although Daehaeng's buddhist sermons and Kazantzakis' novels can be distinguished in categories of ‘religion' and ‘literature', it was confirmed that a wide intersection formed through a free man. So this study, a certain academic meaning can be given in terms of providing examples that Daehaeng's Seon thought can be useful grasp the Buddhist implications of Kazantzakis' literature.
