- 미수(眉叟) 허목(許穆)에 관한 도가(道家) 프레임 고찰 -
미수(眉叟) 허목(許穆)은 탈주자학적 학풍을 보였던 인물로 인식되고 있다. 그에 더하여 ‘도가적 경향’을 가진 학자라고 평가되기도 한다. 그리고 그 인식은 어느덧 프레임이 되어 기능하고 있다. 본 논문은 허목의 학문적 성향에 대한, 이와 같은 기존의 평가가 정당한 것 이었는지를 확인함을 목적으로 한다. 한 사람의 학자가 가지고 있는 학문적 성향에 대한 판단은 철저하게 그의 학문적 사유를 바탕으로 이루어져야 한다. 허목에 대하여 “도가적 경향을 가지고 있다.”라고 하는 지금까지 의 평가는 도가적 사유에 대한 충분한 고찰 없이, 신비한 분위기에 감싸여져 있거나, 은자적 처세를 취했던 사람들을 도가적인 인물로 혐의하고, 그러한 사람들이 가계에 있다는 사실과, 그러한 사람들과 교유했다는 사실을 바탕으로 한다. 그 바탕 위에 허목이 과거를 보지 않은 사실, 신비한 이야기나 인물을 다룬 글을 저술한 사실 등을 겹쳐놓고 바라보는가 하면, 허목 의 방대한 저술 속에서 맥락을 고려하지 않은 채 필요한 부분만 발췌하여 해석한 결과이다. 허목은 『역(易)･『예(禮)』･『악(樂)』･『시(詩)』･『서(書)』･『춘추(春秋)』 등 유학의 여섯 경전 을 중요하게 여겼던 유학자이다.
A Study on the Taoist Frame of Misu Heo Mok
Misu Heo Mok is recognized as a person who showed an academic inclination a s a C onfucian b ut n ot N eo-Confucian. In a ddition, he i s considered to have Taoist tendencies. That recognition was already fixed as a frame and is functioning. The purpose of this study is to ensure that these existing assessments of the academic inclination of Heo Mok are appropriate. An assessment of a scholar's academic inclination should be based on his academic thought. The contention so far that Heo Mok has Taoist tendencies is based on speculation that his family or people around him were Taoist figures. That speculation was made without considering whether or not they had Taoist thinking. But they were only enveloped in some mysterious atmosphere or led the life of a recluse. Also, the facts that Heo Mok did not take the examination to serve as a government official, and he wrote various writings on mysterious things or people were overlapped with that assessment. Furthermore, the result of extracting and interpreting only necessary parts without considering the context in Heo Mok's vast writings was added on that. But, Heo Mok was a Confucian s cholar who regarded the s ix Confucian Scriptures as important: The Book of Changes, The Book of Rites, The Book of Music, The Book of Poetry, The Book of Documents, and The Book of Spring and Autumn Annals.
