- 中和新說과 주희철학의 핵심 本領 -
필자가 이 논문에서 밝히고자 하는 주 내용은 방대한 주희철학 사유체계를 縱과 橫으로 관통하는 핵심 本領, 그리고 주희가 왜 이 본령을 근거로 철학사유를 정립했는가에 관한 내적 외적 요인을 분석하는 것이다. 필자는 이전에 주희철학을 연구함에 있어 먼저 理氣論, 心性論, 工夫論, 知行論 등 세분화된 학술범주에서 주요 개념과 의미를 분석한 후에, 집적된 지식을 토대로 전체 규모를 파악하는 방법을 취했다. 범주별, 주제별 연구의 나눔 그리고 종합 과정에서 필연적으로 등장할 수밖에 없는 문제의식이 있었는데, 그것은 바로 주희철학 전체 사유를 관통하는 핵심 본령에 관한 의문이었다. 주희철학에서 다양한 학술 범주의 주요 이론들은 모두 이 핵심 본령을 근거로 특수한 명제로 표현되어 있다. 性卽理, 心統性情, 理氣不離不雜, 理無所不在, 先知後行 등 어느 것도 예외가 아니다. 필자가 파악한 주희철학의 핵심 본령은 의외로 간단명료했다. 그것은 바로 ‘본체(性)의 정태성’인데, 이는 주희 나이 40세에 이루어진 中和新說에서 확정되었다. 주희가 형이상의 본체를 정태적 실체(원리)로 규정한 이유는 다양할 것이다. 주희 생명의 기질적 특성, 역사적 현실에 대한 주희의 성찰, 불교에 빼앗긴 학술의 주도권 회복이라는 시대정신과 정치적 요소 등을 들 수 있다. 필자는 이 논문에서 중화신설의 핵심 내용, 그리고 그것과 각 학술 범주 간의 정합성, 또 역사적 배경과 주희의 시대정신을 분석할 것이다.
Zhonghwaxinshe and the Special Character of the Core in Zhu Xi's Philosophy
This study mainly focused on the core that penetrated the thinking system of Zhu Xi's expansive philosophy and the internal and external factors behind the reason why he based his philosophical thinking on the core. In the study of Zhu Xi's philosophy, the investigator first analyzed its major concepts and meanings in segmented academic categories such as the theory of the Li and Ki and the theory of the mind and figured out its entire scale based on the accumulated knowledge. There was problematic consciousness that necessarily emerged in the process of dividing and putting together researches by the category and topic, and it concerned questions about the core penetrating the entire thinking of Zhu Xi's philosophy, in which the principal theories of various academic categories were expressed in special propositions based on the special character of this core. Nothing is an exception including the nature is principle and Xingtongxingqing. The investigator found that the special character of Zhu Xi philosophy's core was unexpectedly simple and clear. It was the "static nature of the body (properties)." It was confirmed in Zhonghwaxinshe that Zhu Xi achieved at the age of 40. He might have had various reasons for stipulating the metaphysical body with static substance(principle) including his temperamental characteristics, his introspection of historical reality, the spirit of the times to restore academic leadership taken by Buddhism, and political elements. The present study analyzed the essential content of Zhonghwaxinshe, its consistency with each academic category, historical backgrounds, and his spirit of the times.
